Going Yard and Finding the W on and Off the Field
Big wins at PieZone and Sal's Pizza

Okay so this weekend was actually pretty fire. We played in a tournament called Going Yard — two days, a bunch of games, and honestly some unexpectedly good food finds in between. Let's break it down.

Day One: Carteret, NJ

First two games were in Carteret. We won both — actually I think we mercied both teams, which is always a good feeling. But between games, Dad had to find me something to eat fast.

He found this spot called PieZone Pizza (594 Roosevelt Ave, Carteret, NJ — @piezonepizzeria) near the field and bro, it actually came through. The gluten-free pizza showed up in its own sealed aluminum foil packaging — separate from everything, totally safe — and the fries weren't breaded. That's literally all we need. Simple. Clean. Safe. They're also on DoorDash and Uber Eats if you're in the Carteret area and need GF delivered to the field.

But here's the thing nobody expected — the guy running the place gave us free water ice. We had never had water ice before. It's basically an Italian ice but it's a whole Philadelphia thing and honestly? It slaps. I got cherry, Dad got lemon. Both were incredible and 100% gluten free. New favorite thing, no question.

Pizza rating: 7 to 7.5 out of 10. Not life changing but exactly what you need between tournament games.

Also Lay's Sour Cream & Onion chips were in the car. I destroyed the whole bag on the way home. We're not apologizing for that.

Day Two: North Brunswick, NJ

Sunday was different. We came in as the number one seed — game at one, finals at five if we won. In between, the whole team was going out to eat together. This is the part that matters. I don't want to be the kid who can't roll with his team because of the food thing. That's not me.

Dad found Sal's Pizza (440 Towne Center Dr, North Brunswick Township, NJ — @salspizzanj). GF pie, same aluminum foil situation, separate pan, separate cutter, people in central Jersey know this spot and the GF crust is legit, fluffy and crispy and actually tastes like real pizza. Crinkle cut fries with zero breading. Maximos was there too, he just got diagnosed with celiac, and we both handled it. No issues. We sat with the whole team, talked about the game (and the Sox were beating the yankees on TV in the background), had a blast.

Then we went back and won the championship. Came home with the t-shirt.

That's the full weekend. Went undefeated, ate safe, honestly couldn't have gone any better.

When the food works out AND you win the whole thing? That's a W on every level.
